What code editor do you use?

Code is Poetry.

That is the tagline of the world’s most popular open source software.

The tagline is fitting, not only because of the phenomenal success of the wordpress platform but also because of fact: developers are nothing but writers.

Being the code writers they are, the choice of tool with which to create and modify code is central the developers’ work process. The IDE (Integrated Development Environment) ties closely with the application language, database and structure of the solution being developed.

Nothing defines a programmer than his choice of code editor.

What most developers will not tell you is that this choice is heavily influenced by the learning process through which the developer learnt to code.

If his teacher taught him how to code using Eclipse then he will most probably swear by it. If on the other hand his teacher taught him to code with Dreamweaver then he will never figure code without it.

Sometimes a developer will tango with a new code editor, perhaps to discover it, sometimes to play and sometimes to see what neat stuff it can do. But most developers always go back to that code editor they hold true.
